(By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.45 a.m.) Of the four Focke-Wulf fighterbombers destroyed during a tip and run raid on a South Coast town today, one was shot down by a fighter and the other three by anti-aircraft fire. The Focke-Wulf destroyed by a pilot flew low out to sea at full throttle, with a Typhoon, piloted by a New Zealand squadron leader, on its tail. A burst of a few seconds from the New Zealander’s guns blew up the enemy aircraft. The pilot said: “When the FockeWulf blew up, fragments shot all over the place and splashed into the water. I flew through a hail of debris, while the rest of the Hun lay smoking on the water.”
This New Zealand squadron leader, who returned recently to lead a Typhoon formation after a period of staff duties, holds the D.F.C. and bar, which he won as an intruder pilot.
