WOMEN’S CLOTHING
RESTRICTIONS IN UNITED STATES. DIRECTED TO SAVING MATERIAL. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) NEW YORK. May 24. Far-reaching restrictions on the manufacture of women's outer clothing have been ordered by the War Production Board with the object of conserving materials. It is emphasised, however, that there are no restrictions* on creative designs and it is hoped that W’ar time fashions “should continue to be well styled and attractive.” A new decree limits the amount of material to be used for collars, pockets and other trimmings, reduces the sweep of skirt, restricts the length, width of hips and sleeves, bans doublebreasted suits and jackets, and also reversible, lined and other types of
skirts using excessive quantities of material.
Officials of the board stated that the restrictions would keep existing wardrobes in fashion and would also discourage non-essential purchases for replacement.
