MASTERTON SUB-CENTRE NORMAL ACTIVITIES review of past year. SHOP DAY ON FRIDAY. The Masterton Sub-Centre of the Red Cross Society will hold its annual shop day on Friday, May 28, and the public is asked by the society for its support. Donations and goods will be gratefu y received. , The following are some of the normal activities of the society for the past The hospital group has made 2452 articles, including 169 pairs of pyjamas and 76 dressing gowns, all for military hospitals. The sewing group has also maae pyjamas, orderly gowns and slippers, as well as sending three cases of clothing overseas, three cases of warm clothing to the Seamen’s Mission, and a case of baby clothes to St. Barnabas Home The Hospital Visiting Committee has been busy, and cigarettes, flowers, chocolates, fruit, drinks and books have been distributed to sick soldiers in hospital. During the winter months an average of 45 soldiers were visited twice weekly. Accommodation was also arranged for relatives of sick service men. Red Cross craft workers visit . the hospital regularly and instruct patients in the T.B. ward and sick and returned soldiers in useful handcrafts. A room has now been made available at the Returned Soldiers’ Club, where disabled returned men are learning all manner of crafts.

The Prisoner of War Committee has packed 150 parcels for next of kin, the Knitting Group has made 473 garments, including 134 pairs of sox and 234 other garments, for prisoners of war.

The Red Cross transport is on the job all the year round, and for the month of April, 1943, did 83 trips with a mileage of 1836 for sick and wounded, and 240 miles for the Red Cross Centre: Red Cross V.A.D.’s and Kitchen Aides continue to do useful work in hospitals.

Before Christmas 60 dozen eggs were sent to an American hospital, and a large case of comforts were sent to Sister Chisholm, No. 3 General Hospital, Middle. East. This case arrived safely.
