OBITUARY
MR C. A. CAMERON. The death occurred at a private hospital in Wellington yesterday of Mr Charles Archibald Cameron, a well known and highly respected resident of Flat Point, Masterton. Mr Cameron had enjoyed good health until last August.
The late Mr Cameron was born in the Wairarapa in 1868 and was a son of Mr and Mrs Alan Cameron of “Bowlands,” whose parents were pioneer settlers, arriving in Wellington in 1840. Mr Cameron was a racing supporter for the past 20 years, and was a member of the Wellington, Wairarapa and Masterton Racing clubs in addition to being an owner of race horses. Mr Cameron gave sterling service as a member of ‘ the Wairarapa South County Council for a number of years.
The late Mr Cameron, who was a well known and successful station owner at one time owned “Springhill,” Tinui, and later acquired “Flat Point,” which he had farmed for 34 years, specialising in the production of fat stock. He was a member of the Wairarapa P. and A. Society, Masterton A. and P. Association, Farmers’ Union, and the Sheep Owners’ Federation. He is survived by his widow, a daughter, Mrs H. M. A. Major, and three sons, Messrs Crawford, Eric (overseas) and Geoffrey Cameron, to whom the sympathy of a wide circle of friends will be extended. Mrs W. Laing, of “Rata Hills,” is a sister of the late Mr Cameron, and Dr. R. Cameron, of Paraparaumu, is a brother. The funeral will take place in Masterton tomorrow, the cortege being due to reach the Masterton Cemetery gates at 1 p.m. from Wellington. MRS CHARLOTTE DEAL. The many friends of Mrs Charlotte Deal, of Renall Street, Masterton, will regret to learn of her death which occurred in a private hospital yesterday. The late Mrs Deal whose kindly nature earned her the respect of a wide circle of friends was born in Berkshire, England, 79 years ago. She came out to New Zealand, with her parents, at the age of eleven years and settled at Akaroa. In 1890 Mrs Deal came to the Wairarapa and for the past 30 years had resided at Renall Street. Mr and Mrs Deal celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary two years ago. Mrs Deal’s many kindly acts were greatly appreciated by her friends. Mrs Deal is survived by her husband and a daughter, Miss L. G. Deal, Renall Street, to whom the sympathy of a wide circle of friends will be extended.
The funeral will take place tomorrow, leaving the Chapel of Hyde’s Funeral Service, following a service at 2 p.m. for the Masterton Cemetery.
