REGISTERED NURSES
WAIRARAPA BRANCH MEETING. ADDRESS BY MISS TALBOT. The usual monthly meeting of the Registered Nurses’ Association Wairarapa Branch, was held in the Nurses’ Home, Masterton hospital, last evening. Miss H. Grant presided over a large attendance of members. Miss L. Higginson, vice-president, presented the association prizes for the best case studies written by nurses in the Masterton hospital, to Nurse James in the maternity section, and Nurse Cox in the student nurse group. The speaker for the evening was Miss Talbot, who was until recently, attached to a missionary hospital in the Solomon Islands. Miss Talbot left the islands only a few hours before the Japanese landing. She gave interesting details of the Mission and Government hospitals, the treatment of tropical diseases and the organising of the leper colony.
Many questions were answered and the speaker was thanked for her address.
Miss Grant, on behalf of the members of the branch, presented Miss Talbot with a cheque to help the work carried on by the small band of courageous nurses in the Solomon Islands. The meeting concluded with the serving of supper.
