CARTERTON

SOCIAL EVENING PRESENTATION MADE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Clareville Hall on Friday evening was crowded to capacity on the occasion of a social and presentation tendered to Flight Sergeant Hall. A most enjoyable time was spent, and the gathering was brought to a close with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” The music for the dancing was played by Tom Udy’s orchestra, and a number of appreciated extras were played by members of the audience. The M.C. was Mr K. H. Reid. Novelty dances were won by Mr Harold Staples and Miss Audrey Phelps (Monte Carlo), and by Miss Humphries and partner (statue dance). Mr H. J. McKenzie, on behalf of the settlers of the district, referred to the good qualities of the guest of the evening, who was well known and highly respected. He was leaving his home town, where he was born and educated, to do his duty for the British Commonwealth of Nations. Everyone wished him well and a safe return. Mi- McKenzie handed him a useful present from the residents. On behalf of the Women's Division of the Farmers’ Union, Mr K. Reid presented the guest with a parcel of woollen garments. Flight Sergeant Hall returned thanks. Long Association. When speaking at Saturday evening’s meeting of the Wairarana Rugby Union, Mr R. Ward said it was indeed pleasing to record that three clubs were represented who had been connected with the Union for 62 years. First Offender. A first offender for drunkenness, charged before Mr W. C. M. Sorensen, J.P., at the Carterton Courthouse this morning, was convicted and discharged. REGENT THEATRE “SUSPICION.” One of the most revealing mystery romances of the year, “Suspicion,” will be shown at the Regent Theatre tonight. Cary Grant and Sir Cedric Hardwicke are starred in this production. which was Joan Fontaine’s academy award.
