ANNUAL MEETING HELD ON SATURDAY PROSPECTS BRIGHT FOR COMING SEASON. FOUR SENIOR TEAMS COMPETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a full attendance of delegates at the annual meeting of the Wairarapa Rugby Football Union held I at Carterton on Saturday evening. Mi J. F. Thompson, president, occupied the chair. The annual report and the balance sheet, the latter showing a loss for the year of £62 17s 6d, were adopted. Mr Thompson extended a hearty welcome to the delegates from the Army and Air Force, also to Mr Is. McKenzie, the admiral of football. Many well known New Zealand footballers had paid the supreme sacrifice many were wounded and others held as prisoners of war . Most of the redoubtable Sprinkbok team which toured the Dominion some years ago had also lost their lives for the Empire. Their duty was to keep the flag flyiHfe in the Wairarapa so that when the soldiers returned from overseas, the future of the sport would be assured. The prosnccts this year seemed bright, from the fact that it was hoped to field foul senior teams. The union’s finances a present were not of the best but e felt sure the Army was going to give the union monetary assistance foi losses brought about by the use of union grounds. The secretary, Mr H. The Army and Air Force were admitted to membership of the union and the following clubs would take part in this year’s fixtures:— S'.rior - —Carterton, Army, Air Force, and Combined Masterton. Third grades A: — Carterton, Old Boys, College, Greytown, Masterton. B: Carterton. College, Masierton. The election of officers resulted. Pat> on, Mr W. Henry Booth; president, Mr J. F. Thompson; vice-presidents, Messrs J. B. Jury, A. E. Reid Campbell Smith, S. Gilman, Q. Donald, Geo. A Vincent, G. Wilson, E. B. Booth, W. G. Lamb; delegates to New Zealand Rugby Union, Messrs K. G. Fairbrother and H. A. McPhee; honorary secretary, Mr H. A .McPhee; hon. treasurer, Mr K . G.'Fairbrother; sole selector (senior), Mr K. Reid; sole junior selector, Mr J Dwyer; management committee. Messrs K. Reid, M. J. Parker, M. Fly. C. A. Gray, R. Shackleton, F B. Brough, J. Dwyer, Joe Fitzgerald, W. Stringfellow; Army and Air Force delegates, ex officio. It was decided to open the season officially next Saturday. . _ The question of playing a semoi game at Martinborough during the season was brought forward by Mr r • R Brough and the proposal was recommended to the incoming committee for approval. • „ Mr R. Pickard announced that Mi 1 • Donnes and himself had decided to present to the union a cup to be known as the Terry Memorial Cup for third grade competition players. On behalf of the union the chairman thanked the donors for their handsome gift and said it was a very fine gesture on their part as Mr Terry had made the supreme sacrifice in the present war. The incoming committee would make arrangements and conditions regarding the trophy. Delegates were asked to go through the list of members of their clubs so as to obtain a full list to enable the union to compile a complete list of representative players who had paid the supreme sacrifice in the present wai. Mr Thompson thanked all, who, duiin« the last season had kept the ball rolling in the Wairarapa' under tryingconditions. For this effort Carterton were to be complimented. At a meeting of the management committee, Mr K. G. Fairbrother was unanimously re-elected chairman. It was decided that the charges foi admission to grounds be:- Senior games, Is 6d; junior games, 6d; ladies. 6d; all games where possible to oe commenced promptly at 2 p.m. The following transfers were granted to allow players to link up with other clubs—Messrs Torrence, Henderson, H. and B. Mangin, J. Daniell, Skews and F. Sexton. It was decided that the committee meet at Carterton on Friday week. June 4, at G. 30 p.m.

Mas eiton. at Rugby Park, Masterton, at 1.30 p.m. , Friendly game:—Grey town v. Ca - terton B, at Carrington Park, Car terton, at 2 p.m.
