LABOUR EXECUTIVE DEFENDS TRUCE, STATEMENT OF CONSERVATIVE AIMS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, May 21. The Labour Party executive has issued a manifesto in defence of the electoral truce, stating that mere party interests were not a sufficient cause for breaking the truce. “Our men are fighting a hard life and death struggle. Their assessment of the relative importance of military and political warfare might not exactly coincide with the •views of those at home.” The Conservative Party conference decided unanimously to send a message to Mr Churchill expressing its loyal and unabated support. The conference passed a resolution pledging support of the Government’s India policy. Lord Salisbury, who was re-elected president, referred to the political position after the war. “It will be for the Conservative Party once more to undertake a great task and responsibility," he said. “We don’t believe in State management always interfering. We are for liberty, freedom and independence. That is the very life-blood of our party, and that is what we intend to maintain.”
