BADLY CRAMPED
PATHOLOGICAL DEPARTMENT. AT MASTERTON HOSPITAL. The need of additional accommodation for the Pathological Department at the Masterton Hospital was stressed at yesterday’s meeting of Wairarapa Hospital Board. Although provision was made in the estimates for the increased accommodation, the board decided to investigate the possibility of using rooms across the corridor from the present laboratory to save building costs.
The chairman, Mr H. H. Mawley, said the pathological work had nearly doubled. Over 2000 investigations were made annually. There was no bench space, and work was being done on the floor. There was practically no accommodation for people to change. Provision for additional accommodation was made in the estimates. Mrs S. Fletcher said the most important thing was to avoid unnecessary expense. There were rooms across the corridor from the present laboratory which could be converted into a laboratory. Mr P. R. Welch said time could be saved if additional space enabled investigations to be completed on the spot. There was a delay when the investigations had to be completed in Wellington,
