FIRE BOARD
ANNUAL MEETING LAST NIGHT LIGHT FIRE LOSS DURING YEAR. SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT.
The annual meeting of the Masterton Fire Board was held last night. The chairman, Mr W. Kemp, presided. There were also present: Messrs W. H. Judd, F. Lambourn, K. Mason and H. Clay. Mr W. Kemp was re-elected chairman. Mr Mason said it was a pleasure to sit on the board under Mr Kemp’s chairmanship. Mr Kemp had given splendid service. Other members endorsed Mr Mason’s remarks.
The Superintendent, Mr T. B. Clark, submitted a report for the year ending March 31, 1943, in which it was stated that the fire loss totalled £933 for the year, of which amount £7lO was covered by insurance. The value of the property inyalued was £25,350 and the insurance value was £17,765. There were 65 calls to fires or supposed fires, an increase of 31 on the number in the previous year. The fires were: Chimney, 6; grass and rubbish, 24; false 15 (5 malicious); actual fires, 20. All theatre fire appliances had keen inspected. All plant and equipment was maintained in good order. Referring to the re-organisation following the earthquakes, Mr Clark said it was fortunate there was no outbreak of fire at the time of the earthquake. Mr Clark expressed his thanks to the officers and members of the permanent and auxiliary brigade staff for their co-operation and interest in the service; to the Police Department, E.P.S. executive, officers and members of the Emergency Fire Service, watchroom attendants and the various departments of the Borough Council for their assistance.
