GREYTOWN

NEW FIRE PUMP TRIAL BY BRIGADE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Greytown Fire Brigade received its new trailer pump on Saturday and in the presence of Mr Girling Butcher, chief inspector of Fire Brigades, a trial was held in the Main Street. The pump is of the latest type and is a welcome addition to the brigade’s equipment. Presentation Made. The Greytown Citizens’ Patriotic Committee held a euchre party and dance in the Town Hall on Friday evening. The guest of the evening was I L.A.C. K. Langford. On behalf of the 1 committee, Mr J. F. Thompson expressed good wishes and presented Mr Langford with a writing case. Mr H. G. Carter spoke on behalf of the Returned Services’ Association, and in the absence of Mrs Beu made a presentation of a woollen gift from the Women’s Division of the Farmers' Union. Udy’s Orchestra supplied the music and Mr T. Tully acted as M.C. The euchre prizes went to Mrs Ticehurst and Mr Strang. The consolation winners were Miss Namara and Mr W. Flood. Shop Repairs. The repairs to the W.F.C.A. Ltd’s. Greytown premises are nearing completion, and the new attractive shop front was glazed today. Since the earthquake the whole shop front has been reconstructed. Personal. Mr A. G. Nisbet has returned from Taupo. Mrs H. E. Webster and her daughter, Majorie, of Hawera, have been in Greytown during the weekend visiting old friends. Mrs R. Cundy, of Dannevirke, was the guest of Mr and Hrs W. J. Knell, West Street, at the weekend. Mrs H. Stenberg, of Auckland, was the guest of Mr and Mrs H. G. Carter during the weekend. Miss D. Tully, of Waipawa, is home for the school vacation. Mrs R. Richards and Miss D. Richards, of McMaster Street, are spending a holiday at Lake Ferry. Ms D. Fairbrother, of Wood Street, is spending a holiday at Paraparaumu Beach. TOWN HALL “THE VANISHING VIRGINIAN.” A picture of more than usual merit, “The Vanishing Virginian,” is the at- . traction at the Town Hall tonight. It features Frank Morgan and Kathryn Grayson.
