UNCERTAIN OUTLOOK
OPERATION OF AMERICAN COAL MINES. LEWIS DENONCES WAR LABOUR BOARD. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) NEW YORK. May 16 The president of the United Mine Workers’ Association. Mr John L. Lewis, announced that it would not be represented at the meeting which has been called by the War Labour Board in Washington for tomorrow to discuss the miners' wages. Mr Lewis declined to say whether the miners would continue working after midnight next Tuesday, when the 15-day truce expires. “The War Labour Board has demonstrated the malignity of its purpose to block a new wage agreement,’’ said Mr Lewis. “The miners feel that their case is now outside the board’s jurisdiction. We believe that-the jurisdiction and responsibility rests with the agents of the Government who are now In charge of the coal mines.”
