HOME GUARD
REPRESENTATIVE PARADE IN LONDON KING TAKES SALUTE. FORCE CONGRATULATED. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.55 a.m.) RUGBY, May 16. The King took the salute at a parade of the Home Guard in Hyde Park, in celebration of the third anniversary of the formation •of the force. Over 5,000 officers and men, representing units throughout the country, paraded. The Irish Guards band maintained a sequence of march tunes. During the march past, the King was greeted by the Secretary of State for War (Sir J. Grigg) and General Paget. Lieuten-ant-General J. L. Devers, the newlyappointed commanding general of the United States European forces, was introduced to his Majesty. The Home Guard wore battle order and marched six abreast. The King saw the efficiency with which the men handled their weapons and congratulated them. He later inspected the equipment in their possession.
