ANNUAL MEETING
FARMERS’ UNION DISTRICT EXECUTIVE THE PRODUCTION OUTLOOK. MR HUGH MORRISON’S SURVEY. The annual meeting of the Wairarapa Provincial Executive of tne Farmers’ Union was held in Masterton this morning. Mr Hugh Morrison presided over a large attendance of branch delegates. The president’s report, which related to the Union taking a part in politics, was taken in committee. Mr Morrison also referred to the policy of stabilisation. Mr Morrison stressed the need for maintaining and increasing production. As Herbert Hoover*had said, “a starving world must be fed after this war ends. Even if feeding it had not been promised, we would have to do it if we want to make a lasting peace instead of lasting anarchy.” Mr Morrison said it was unfortunate that, at the very time when increased production was wanted, the district was suffering from one of the worst droughts it ever experienced. However, he knew that the farmers of the district would rise to the occasion. Mr Morrison observed that the shortage of fertiliser would adversely affect production. Of the 7,000,000 acres of farm land in New Zealand, only 1,000,000 acres could be farmed without fertiliser. In conclusion Mr Morrison thanked members for their loyal support during his term of office. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. James seconded Mr Morrison’s nomination and he was unanimously re-elected. Reference was made to the illness of Mr J. C.
