GREYTOWN

TOWN LANDS MEETING OF TRUSTEES. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the Greytown Town Lands Trust was held on Thursday evening. Mr F. Donnes was elected chairman for the meeting. The annual report stated that grants hade during the year were:-- Library £6O, Park £25, Borough Council £B5, School Committee £65, Fire Brigade £25, Plunket Society £l5, Patriotic Committee £35 10s, High School Sports Fund £5 ss, Girl Guides £5, Boy Scouts £5, making a total of £240 15s. During the year £65 Os 7d was spent on the maintenance of the Trust houses, while general repair work amounting to £47 15s lOd was carried out to other properties. Investments in War Loans during the year amounted to £787 10s. The present value of buildings was £3,831 6s 6d, after allowing for depreciation, while other assets were land as per Government valuation £2885, Post Office Savings Account £7B 4s lid, National Savings Account £350, N.Z. Government Inscribed Stock £6OO, Bomber Bonds £437 10s, electrical equipment £34 16s, office equipment £l4, arrears of rent £7l 12s sd, and balance in credit at the Banjcof New Zealand £6O, 14s lOd, making a total of £8,363 4s Bd. There were no liabilities. In moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet the chairman stated that the assets were well maintained. The grants had been slightly increased. Mr W. Tully was reappointed auditor. The monthly meeting of trustees was held after the annual meeting. The returning officer reported that Messrs W. H. Day and W. Grigg were the only, nominations and declared them elected. Mi’ Dennes was elected chairman for the coming year. The overseer, Mr F. J. Brooks, reported that several trees at the reserve would yield a quantity of posts. Messrs Dennes and Grigg were appointed to deal with this matter. It was resolved that notices be sent to tenants to clear broom and gorse. Accounts passed for payment amounted to £4O 6s Bd, £lB of which was for earthquake repairs. PLUNKET SOCIETY BUSINESS AT ANNUAL MEETING. At the annual meeting of the Greytown branch of the Plunket Society, Mrs Wiggins (vice-president), presided. Mrs Trapp represented the Carterton branch. Mrs Wiggins, in welcoming members, said it was very pleasing to see the young mothers present and also extended a welcome to Mrs Trapp. Sympathy was expressed to members who had suffered bereavement. Mrs Wiggins also wished greetings to be conveyed to the patroness, Mrs Horton, and wished her a speedy recovery from her recent illness. Three new members were nominated, Mesdames M. Maddison, Fountaine and McPherson. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted: —Patroness, Mrs Horton; president, Mrs Maddison; vicepresidents, Mesdames Wiggins and Everett; committee, Mesdames Anker, Alexander, Bayliss, Burns, Bull, Gregor, Haigh, Oakey, Richards, Smallwood. Stuart, York, Murphy and M. Maddison; advisory board, Messrs J. F. Thompson, J. Kiernan and Dr. Oakey; auditor, Mr W. J. Knell. The annual report of the Plunke„ nurse stated: —No. of birth notices received, 32; No. of new cases, 22. Visits to homes: New cases, 61; to babies. old cases, 386; to pre-school children, 114, total, 447. Visits to office: Adults, 274: babies, 237; pre-school children, 85; total. 596. Pre-school children examined by school medical officer, 10; babies under supervision at the end of March, 1943, 28; pre-school children under supervision at the end of March, ■ 1943, 40. <. TOWN HALL “BABES ON BROADWAY.” At a matinee at 2.15, and again at 8 p.m. tomorrow, “Babes on Broadway will be the attraction at the Town Hall.
