STRONG GERMAN DEFENCES AT NOVOROSSISK AMPHIBIOUS WARFARE IN KUBAN MARSHES. ENEMY. SETBACK ON DONETS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, May 13. There are no signs yet of the German defences cracking at Novorossisk, though they have been pounded by hundreds of guns of all calibres for five days, says “The Times” Moscow correspondent. The enemy is still counter-attacking with undiminished vigour. The Luftwaffe has brought up reserves and Germaxx planes are ma-chine-gunning advancing Russian elements. Diversionist groups are active in the marshes. They have been landing from small craft which are brought down the Kuban River, guided by fishermen through the narrow backwaters. A heavy toll has been taken of German vessels in this region in amphibious warfare. It remains to be seen whether the reverse inflicted on the Germans aftex’ axx initial success neax- Lisichansk (on the Donets) marks the end of fighting which has been going on in that region for some days.
