AIR AND NAVAL OPERATIONS RECENT LOSS OF ALLIED SHIPS. INCLUDING CORVETTE MOA. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 12.5 p.m.) RUGBY, May 13. A United States Navy Department communique announces the names of Allied naval vessels sunk by air attack near Guadalcanal on April 7 as the United States destroyer Aaron and war tanker Kanawha and the New Zealand corvette Moa. It adds: “On May 11, a force of Army Mitchells attacked Japanese installations at Kiska, dropping bombs on the runway and main camp area. On the morning of May 12. Flying Fortresses attacked Kahili, in the Shortland Island area, starting a number of fires which appeared to be burning enemy aircraft. “Later in the morning, Dauntlesses and Avengers, escorted by Warhawks and Corsairs, attacked Japanese installations at Munda, New Georgia. “On the night of May 12 light surface units bombarded Japanese positions at Vila and Muna.”
