TEN U-BOATS

CERTAINLY OR PROBABLY DESTROYED IN TREMENDOUS ATLANTIC BATTLE. STRONG DEFENCE OF ALLIED CONVOY. LONDON, May 12. For eight days and nights ships of the Royal Navy and aircraft of the Royal Canadian Air Force fought a tremendous running battle with a pack of 25 U-boats when they attacked a westward bound Atlantic convoy. The full results of the battle are given in an Admiralty communique. Four U-boats were destroyed for certain, another four very probably destroyed and two more probably destroyed, a total of ten out of 25. The convoy suffered some damage, but the majority of the merchant ships reached port in safety.
