NIGHT CLUBS
SOME CLOSED IN SYDNEY. BLOT ON COMMUNITY LIFE. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY, May 12. “Night clubs have been used as meeting places for enemy agents," declared the New South Wales State Premier, Mr McKell. “In these places they have obtained information about troop and shipping movements.” The Premier was explaining why he issued the regulations closing down certain night' clubs. “The security of Australia is the purpose of these regulations,” he added. “Night clubs and sly-grog shops are cesspools of vice and have been a blot on our community life for years. They have helped considerably to destroy the efficiency of our fighting services. “The military authorities are very much disturbed about happenings in these places. They, together with the police, have made representations for the issue of these regulations.”
