GREYTOWN
GOLF CLUB ANNUAL MEETING LAST NIGHT. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the Greytown Golf Club was held last evening. Mr J. Kiernan presided over an attendance of twenty members. The annual report stated that during the past season the club had been able to entertain a large number of the members of the armed forces and this reason alone had justified the club in harrying on its activities. The balance sheet showed assets at £163 ss, and a cash balance of £ll. The president said that members should consider whether to carry on or go into recess. It was pointed out that only 6 holes would be available and there was a scarcity of balls. The majority of the old members had signified that they intended to join again this year. Mr J. F. Thompson expressed the hope that the club would continue. It was 36 years since it was formed. On his motion it was agreed that the club should carry on. The subscription was fixed: Men, £2 10s; ladies, £1 10s; reduceable to £2 and £1 5s respectively if paid before June 30. The election of officers resulted: — Patron, Mr H. Kellie; president, Mr J. Kiernan; vice-presidents, Messrs E. Williams and W. Popo; club captain, Mr T. Gold; secretary, Mr G. Burns; match committee, Messrs J. Kiernan, G. Brunton and T. Gold; auditor, Mr W. Tully; general committee, Messrs J. Reid, T. Gold, P. Pope, E. Maddison, G. Brunton and N. McLeod; green committee, Messrs S. Brice and J. Kiernan; handicappers, Messrs T. Gold and J. Kiernan. '
Five new members were elected. The opening day was fixed for May
The committee was authorised to invest £25 in National Savings. t CROQUET WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION. The Wairarapa Croquet Association's annual meeting was held in Greytown yesterday afternoon. In the absence of Mrs Wakely, Mrs A. Gregor occupied the chair. ~ The visiting delegates came from Masterton, Lansdowne, Haunui, Featherston and Greytown clubs. Mrs Polson’s resignation was accepted with regret. Mrs Bassett, secretary and treasurer, submitted the annual report and balance sheet. The election of officers resulted:— President, Mrs Wakely; vice-presi-dents, Mesdames I. I. McGregor, A. Gregor, Saunders, McEwen and Miss E. Card; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mrs Bassett; handicapper and referee, Mrs Bassett. It was decided that inter-club matches be played during the coming season, and to hold the tournament over for another year. The secretary’s honorarium was fixed at £1 Is. The next association meeting would be held in Masterton on September 15. Mrs H. G. Carter was thanked for the use of her home foi' the meeting. TOWN HALL DOUBLE FEATURE PROGRAMME. Two features are included in the programme to be shown at the Town Hall tomorrow night—“ The Time for Keeps,” starring Ann Rutherford and Robert Stirling in a gay comedy, and "Half Way to Shanghai,” with Irene Hervey and Kent Taylor in the leading roles.
