ALLEGED MURDER
TRIAL OF J. S .CRAWFORD. LIKELY TO LAST A WEEK. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The trial of John Sidney Crawford, a South African seaman, aged 26, for alleged murder of two United States Marines, Elmer William Geti and Sidney Samuel Sparrow, at Terrace Gardens on January 7, opened yesterday before Mr Justice Smith, after an adjournment to arrange for accommodation for the jury during the trial, which is expected to last all the week. Mr W. H. Cunningham opened the case and outlined the evidence. There are 22 witnesses to be heard, and three seamen gave evidence before going overseas. Jean Last, the landlady of the rooming house in which the two men were fatally shot early in the morning, gave evidence, and her cross-examination was incomplete when the Court adjourned till today.
