WEDDING

PEARSON—JOHNS. The marriage took place at St. Patrick’s Church, Masterton, on Saturday, of Irene May, eldest daughter of Mrs J. Petersen and the late Mr L. Johns, and Ronald Heath, of the R.N.Z.N., second son of Mr and Mrs R. H. Pearson, Pownall Street, Masterton. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Father Gilhooly. The bride, who was escorted by her grandfather, Mr T. R. Eton, wore a becoming gown of mongolia crepe satin with a shaped fitting bodice, a square neckline caught with two gold clasps and very full gathered skirt forming a train. Her veil of cream net was worn over the face and held in place with a topknot of velvet orchids. She carried a shower bouquet of cream roses, chrysanthemums and maidenhair fern. The bridesmaids, Miss Kathleen Wallis (chief), and Miss Eileen Johns (sister of the bride), were frocked alike in coral crinkled sheer cut on Grecian lines. They wore velvet topknots and pink shoulder veils and carried matching bouquets. The flower girl, Enid Johns, wore a frock of palm green sheer, cut on the same lines as the bridesmaid’s frocks. Bandsman Stan Pearson carried out the duties of best man, and Corporal Prentice Danner, U.S.M.C., was groomsman. During the signing of the register Miss Eileen Johns sang “Ave Maria.” On leaving the church the bride was presented with a lucky horseshoe by little Betty Pearson, cousin of the bridegroom. About 60 friends and relations were entertained at the reception at the Savage Club rooms, where Mesdames Petersen and Pearson received the guests. Mrs Petersen wore a prunella ensemble and a matching shoulder spray, and Mrs Pearson was attired in a storm blue suit with shoulder spray to tone. The beautiful three-tier wedding cake was made by Mrs R. H. Pearson. The happy couple left for the north, the bride wearing a smart marina blue suit and coat with black accessories.
