AIR ATTACKS
ON JAPANESE PACIFIC BASES (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, May 7. An American Navy Department communique states: “On May 5 Lightnings and Corsairs strafed Japanese positions on Valeta Island, in the Central Solomons. On the morning of May 6, Dauntlesses, Avengers and New Zealand Warhawk bombers, escorted by Corsair and Wildcat fighters, attacked Japanese installations at Munda. Numerous explosions and fires were observed.
