ALEUTIANS BASE
OCCUPIED BY AMERICANS IN JANUARY WITHIN EASY DISTANCE OF KISKA. AND 1,700 MILES FROM TOKIO. LONDON, May 7. American forces have occupied an island in the Aleutians only 63 miles from Kiska and 1,700 miles from Tokio. The island was occupied by United States forces, without opposition, in January, but the announcement was withheld until the Americans had fully consolidated their positions.
