WAR PRISONERS
LETTERS REACHING ITALY IN GOOD TIME MANY PARCELS ALSO BEING RECEIVED. DISTRIBUTION OF BOOTS & UNIFORMS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Prisoners of War Enquiry Office has received cabled advice to the effect that communications for airmen, prisoners of war interned in Oflag XXIB should be addressed to Stalaf Luft, 3, which is a censoring place. This does not apply to parcels, which should still be addressed to Oflag .XXIB. A cablegram has been received to the effect that a letter dated February, from Captain Louis Hill, from Camp 47, Italy, gave the names of some 200 New Zealand officers and says that many New Zealand letters have been arriving within five or six weeks from the date of their despatch from New Zealand and also that a large number of next of kin parcels have arrived, their time of transit varying gieatly. The clothing situation is good. Bulk supplies of boots, uniforms, etc., from the Red Cross have been distributed.
Prisoners in Germany are allowed to receive individually addressed book parcels up to eleven lbs. in weight. These parcels must consist of books only and have no relation to next of kin quarterly parcels. Arrangements have been made whereby the packing depots will be supplied with stocks of chewing gum sufficient to allow the inclusion of at least nine small packets in each parcel as a gift from the Patriotic Funds.
