CARTERTON
MUNICIPAL BAND ANNUAL MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) i Mr Jas. M. Nicholls presided over . the annual meeting of the Carterton [ Municipal Silver Band last evening. ; In his annual report the chairman expressed regret that the general public did not take a greater interest in the band. He praised the boys, which principally comprised the playing membership, and who under their conductor, Mr W. Spooner, had shown excellent improvement during the past twelve months. He referred to the sound financial position of the band, the balance sheet showing a credit of £7O Os lid for the year. The report and balance sheet and the reports of the conductor and secretary were adopted. Mr A. G. Rabbitts expressed appreciation on behalf of R.S.A. to the conductor and his band for the excellent music played by them on the day of the Anzac parade. Votes of thanks were accorded the auditor, Mr H. M. B. Trapp, to all who had given donations and to those who in any way had assisted the band and especially the ladies who had assisted at social gatherings.
The election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron, Mr W. B. Allen (reelected); president, Mr W. Howard Booth (re-elected); vice-presidents, Messrs B. Roberts, M.P., D. L. Taverner (Mayor), W. C. M. Sorensen, Howard E. Jackson, Geo. A. Vincent, C. Larsen, J. A. B. Lawrence, G. L. Chatwin, Joe Udy and R. G. Kemble; conductor, Mr V/. Spooner (re-elected); I bandmaster, Mr Len Parker; band sergeant, Mr Keith Knowles; corporal, Mr Warren Rogers; lance-corporal, Mr Max Faulkner; secretary, Mr A. Kay; treasurer, Mr A. G. Rabbitts; auditor, Mr H. M. B. Trapp; band committee, Messrs A. G. Rabbits, J. M. Nicholls, A. Kay, W. E. Knowles, C. J. De Lacey and two borough representatives. At. a meeting of the newly-formed committee held after the annual meeting, Mr J. M. Nicholls was re-elected chairman.
Personal Items. Captain Alfred Herring, of the Salvation Army, will replace Captain and Mrs C. Waite, who have been transferred to Blenheim. Mr Frank Wright, of the Carter ton Post and Telegraph Office, has received advice of his transfer to the post office at Henderson, North Auckland. Business Closing Down. After having been in business in Carterton for the past 32 years, Messrs H. Keltic & Co. have decided to close their shop in Carterton at the end of May. REGENT THEATRE DOUBLE PROGRAMME. There will be a double programme at the Regent Theatre tonight. Ann Sheridan, George Brent and Osa Massen will be seen in the excellent comedy, “Honeymoon For Three.” The other picture, “Jungle Cavalcade,” is one of the greatest sensations ever brought to the screen.
