JAPANESE AIRCRAFT
ACTIVE RECENTLY IN BURMA LITTLE DAMAGE AND FEW CASUALTIES. LULL IN LAND FIGHTING. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 11.0 a.m.) RUGBY, May 5. While so far no land assault against the Allied stronghold of Buthidaung, in the Arakn district of Burma, has been made, says a Calcutta message, our patrolling has been vigorous and has extended over a front stretching from east of the Mayu River to the Bay of Bengal. There have been a few minor clashes, including an action for a feature westward of the Mayu Hills. In contrast to the lull on land, the Japanese Air Force has been more active. It raided Maungdaw, Rathidaung and Bawlibazar. Only small damage was caused and there were few casualties. The enemy air activity may foreshadow a resumption of attacks on Buthidaung and Maungdaw, but it is more probable that the raid was jut a show of Japanese spitefulness.
