I The question of amalgamation of ' fanning organisations into one big ■ union was discussed and the meeting ! was of the opinion that the Farmers’ ' Union should remain as it is as on any > important matters the Farmers’ Fed- ! eration could take a hand. Members > did not favour the idea of dropping 1 their union after long years of • struggle. The Provincial Secretary reported ’ on the finances of the union. The funds now totalled nearly £BOO. The ’ secretary (Mr R. H. | Williams) was : thanked for his efforts to improve the ; financial position as for years they had always been in debt. ■ The election of officers resulted as ’ follows:—Chairman, Mr R. E. Crawford (re-elected); vice-chairman, Mr R. R. P. Hardy; committee, Messrs G. T. Cole, W. J. Feast, A. J. Rendle, C. J. Nix, W. Barker, R. T. Pillar, E. R. O’Neale and W. Hutchings; delegates to conference, Messrs R. E. Crawford; G. T. Cole, A. J. Rendle; delegates to executive, Messrs R. E. Crawford, G. T. Cole, A. J. Rendle. , The following resolution regarding tires was carried: “That back country settlers be given preference over city dwellers who had other means of transport.” The following remit was carried: “That money which cannot be spent on maintenance owing to war conditions should be exempt from taxation.” It was stated that the matter of religious instruction in school was to be brought up by delegates for discussion at the executive meeting. Soldiers’ Dance. There was a large attendance at the soldiers’ dance held in the Town Hall on Saturday night, a most enjoyable time being spent. The music was sup-' plied by an orchestra and extras were played by Misses G. Fraser and C. Saba. Mr P. Habib made a capable M.C. Novelty dances were won by R. Te Tau and B. Chisholm. The supper arrangements were in the capable hands of the Junior Patriotic Committee. Euchre Tournament. A euchre tournament was held in the Service Club on Friday night, the proceeds from which will go towards the Red Cross Society’s flag day. The winner was Mr Cross, who was presented with a parcel of groceries donated by Mr Beckett. Mrs Wilson won the consolation prize. A mystery envelope (given by Mrs Lawson) was won by Mrs O’Neale, who donated it to the funds. Personal. Miss Z. Holland and Mrs Woodley, Greytown, are spending a few days with Mrs J. W. Holland. COSY THEATRE “THE COURTSHIP OF ANDY HARDY” On Wednesday night the outstanding comedy-drama, “The Courtship of 1 Andy Hardy,” featuring Mickey Roo- ( ney and Lewis Stone, will be shown.
