SERIOUS TRAM SMASH
FIFTY PERSONS INJURED. IN SYDNEY. RUNAWAY VEHICLE CRASHES ■ INTO ANOTHER. (Special Australian Correspondent.) SYDNEY, April 30. In one of the worst smashes ever known in the city about 50 people were injured today. A runaway tram travelling at 50 miles an hour crashed into the rear of a stationary tram. Both trams were packed with people, many of whom received facial injuries from flving pieces of jagged glass. Most of those injured were sent to hospital. The runaway tram did not respond to the driver’s attempts to cut off, the power.
