ST. JOHN’S CHURCH LADIES’ GUILD MEETING. (“Times-Age" Special.) A well-attended meeting of St. John’s Ladies’ Guild was held in the vicarage yesterday, Mrs Bloxam being in the chair. A discussion took place as to the proposed renovation of the Parish Hall, and plans were made to assist the church vestry in this work. The sum of £5 was voted to the social service board of the diocese from Guild funds. Mrs J. R. Higgs gave an interesting talk on “Round the World Before the War.” Afternoon tea was sserved, the hostesses being Mesdames Watson, Peene and Cassidy. Red Cross Society. The following articles and garments have been dispatched from the local sub-centre of the Red Cross Society during April:—One pair of pyjamas, 120 dysentry pads, 14 face clothes, 12 articles for hospital use, 3 handkerchiefs, 2 pullovers and 66 ditty and hospital bags. Bowling. Three rinks represented the Featherston Bowling Club at the Martinborough bowling tournament and one rink consisting of L. James, B. Fuge, G. O’Neale and H. Rolls succeeded in winning first place, without having sustained a loss. J. Thompson’s rink was runner-up. The local green has been closed for the season and the work of top-dress-ing and sowing the necessary seed has begun. COSY THEATRE TONIGHT’S PROGRAMME. The excellent musical comedy, “Birth of the Blues,” will head tonight’s programme at the Cosy Theatre, with Bing Crosby, Brian Donlevy and Mary Martin in the leading roles. “The Tower of Terror,” a thrilling drama, will also be shown, starring Wilfrid Lawson and Morland Graham.
