£3245 14 8 BUILDING SOCIETY MEETING OF DIRECTORS. (“Times-Age" Special.) Mr L. H. Smart presided over a meeting of directors of the Terminating Building Society this week. A ballot for two appropriations were held and resulted in Messrs J. Gray (Parkvale) and Gordon Hughan obtaining £3OO each. Personal Items. Aircraftman K. G. Nix, who is on leave in Carterton, and who is a member of the Loyal Heart of Oak Lodge of Odd Fellows, was met by the secretary and made a presentation on behalf of the members of his lodge. Word has been received in Carterton that Aircraftman J. Billington, who is overseas, has contracted fever and is an inmate of a hospital. Mr B. W. Benge, of the N.Z. Tank Corps, who has been on leave in Carterton, has returned to his unit'. Before leaving he was presented by the, secretary of the Loyal Heart of Oak Lodge of Odd Fellows with a parcel of useful articles. Mrs W. Wadham, of Brooklyn Road,
is visiting Gisborne and other northern towns. Mr John Fensham’s many Carterton friends will regret to learn that he 'is an inmate of Croydon Hospital. Messrs C. Larsen and W. Williams have left Carterton for Whakatane and will be away during the shooting season. Mr D. L. Taverner, mayor of Carterton, who has been away on holiday, has returned to Carterton. Dance at Belvedere. A dance will be held in the Belvedere schoolroom tonight, the proceeds from which will be used for patriotic purposes.
Bowling. The official closing of the Carterton Bowling Club’s green will take place tomorrow. Play will commence at 1.45 pm. It will be a general “tea day.” REGENT THEATRE “THE COURTSHIP OF ANDY HARDY.”
The best of the Mickey Rooney series of pictures, “The Courtship of Andy Hardy,” will be shown finally tonight. Besides Mickey Rooney, there are also in the picture Lewis Stone and Ann Rutherford.
