Mrs G. P. Cook, of Pongaroa, has returned home after a visit to Masterton.
Mrs Hamish, who has been staying with Miss Daniell, Albert Street, Masterton, has returned to Wellington.
Mrs O. Moore and Miss N. Moore, who have been the guests of Mrs P. Kummer, Church Street, Masterton, have returned to Wellington. Mr H. Temple White, of Wellington, has been engaged for the fifth time as vocal adjudicator at the Dunedin Competitions Society’s Festival in August next. Ail- Marshal A. G. R. Garrod, Air Member for Training at the Air Ministry, has been' appointed Deputy Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief in India, a British official wireless message reports.
Mr J. A. Stallworthy, former New Zealand travelling scholar in obstetrics, has had the honorary degree of M.A. conferred on him by Oxford University and has been appointed full-time clinical examiner in obstetrics and gynaecology. Three hundred Maoris attending an unveiling ceremony at Whangarei decided to support the nomination of Mr H. K. Paikea for the vacancy in the Northern Maori constituency caused by the death of the late Mr P. K. Paikea'. The suggested nominee is a brother of the late Minister and is a farmer in the Batley district. He attended a college. The Rev Father John Cullen, provincial of the Redemptorist Order for Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines and Malay, is at present on a visit to St. Gerard’s Monastery, Wellington. Father Cullen was a decade ago on the staff of St. Gerard’s, after which he was transferred to Australia. He has been Provincial of the order for the last six years.
