BOWLING

MASTERTON CLUB. COLTS HANDICAP SINGLES. (Notes by “The Bowler.”) The final of section B of the colts’ handicap singles was played yesterday afternoon between B. Clayson (handicap 10) and Johnstone (handicap 4). The result was a win for Clayson by 5 points. Clayson took a commanding lead on the sth head, scoring 9 points to Johnstone’s 2, the scoreboard showing Clayson 15 (including his handicap of 6), and ’Johnstone 2. The position was almost the same at the 11th head, when Clayson was leading by 14 points. At the 15th head Clayson still retained his lead, the scores being Clayson 23, Johnstone 12. Johnstone reduced the lead to 9 points at the 18th head, and at the 20th head, when the game was completed, Johnstone got within 5 points of his opponent, the final scores being Clayson 24, Johnstone 19.

Both these colts had played good bowls during the competition. Clayson had already won section A, so that by beating Johnstone in section B he put up a fine performance in going through both sections without a loss. Congratulations to Clayson on his meritorious performancme. I also congratulate Johnstone on his fine play in reaching the final.
