FEARS OF INVASION

GERMAN TROOPS POURING INTO BULGARIA ALLIED LANDING IN GREECE. ANTICIPATED IN TURKEY. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, April, 27. Information reaching’‘London from Geneva is that strong German forces are pouring into Bulgaria, says the 8.8. C. Troop trains have been passing through Budapest for four days. The three-day stay in Ankara of General Sir H. Maitland Wilson, Com-mander-in-Chief, Persia-Iraq Command, caused a great stir throughout Turkey, says the Ankara correspondent of the “Daily Mail.” The visit was given significance for two reasons. First, it comes on the eve of the liquidation of the Tunisian campaign, and secondly, it comes at a time when Bulgaria appears to have become a hotbed of political intrigue, with hasty military moves and mass arrests. Informed Turkish quarters infer from this that the Allies’ next step will be to land in Greece. Observers think that if this happens Bulgaria will be compelled to fight with the Axis on the Aegean coast to retain the territory which she has appropiated from Yugoslavia and Greece. General Wilson’s latest contacts with the Turkish General Staff are being interpreted as indicating a possible change in Turkey’s strictly neutral attitude. Turkey's leaders are fully alive to the preparations which Bulgaria is making, backed by her German masters.
