Under a new scheme adopted by the Public Works Department, New Zealand has been divided into three areas for me'chanical plant control. As with the Army, the North Island has been divided into northern and central areas, and one engineer will be in charge of all plant in the South Island. The changed scheme of the department is aimed at ensuring better maintenance and utility of the plant at its disposal.
