GREYTOWN
OBITUARY MRS H. MORRIS. (“Times-Age” Special.) , The death occurred yesterday at the Buchanan Home, Greytown, of Mrs Elizabeth Mary Morris, widow of the late Mr Harry Morris, of Greytown. The late Mrs Morris, who was in her 95th year, had resided in Greytown for the past 80 years. She was a well-known maternity nurse in Greytown for many years and was very popular. Her first husband, Mr Raison, was among the pioneer settlers of Greytown. Her second husband died in 1916. Until quite recently she was remarkably active for her years The funeral will take place tomorrow, leaving St. Luke’s Church, following a service at 11 a.m. for the Greytcwn Cemetery. Personal Items. Miss Cook spent the Easter holidays in Wellington. Miss F. Oxford spent Easter at Masterton. Mrs Ward Tate, Kuratawhiti Street, is visiting Wellington. Miss P. Allen has returned home after a few days spent at Pahiatua. Mrs R. Vile, Main Street, has returned home after having spent the Easter holidays at Petone. Mrs H. G. Carter and Miss Mary Carter spent the Easter holidays in Wellington. Mr D. Burch and family, Main Street, have returned from Pahiatua.
Bowling Tournament.
Messrs H; G. Carter and W. Higgison’s rinks are in the post section of the Nelson Easter bowling tournament today. Anzac Day Service. The usual Anzac Day combined church service was held in the Greytown Town Hall on Sunday. The Mayor, Mr A. W. Horton, presided. The following bodies who took part under Marshall S. Shedden were: Returned Soldiers, Home Guard, Fire Brigade, Scouts, Girl Guides, and Cubs, these were headed by the Wairarapa Pipe Band in the parade to the ‘hall. The Rev. Knowles-Smith gave a most impressive address. The luncheon provided by the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union members after the service was well attended. Mrs R. Beu, president of the Division, welcomed the returned men and their wives and families. Miss L. Higginson, president of the Returned Services’ Association, thanked Mrs Beu and members of the Division. Old-time songs were sung and community singing filled in the time pleasantly. Mrs R. Ingley sang ‘Til Walk Beside You,” and Miss June Brichell sang “The White Cliffs of Dover.” The tables were tastefully decorated with bowls of red roses.
TOWN HALL “H. M. PULHAM, ESQ.” Robert Young, Hedy Lamarr and Ruth Hussey have the chief roles in the brilliant drama, “H. M. Pulham, Esq.,” which will be shown tonight.
