SEVERE FIGHTING

ON HONAN-SHANSI BORDER.

HEAVY JAPANESE ATTACKS STOUTLY OPPOSED.

(By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.0 a.m.) CHUNGKING, April 26

The Japanese used scores of bombers, supporting 40,000 troops, in their biggest offensive in recent months in the Taihan Mountains, on the HonanShansi border.

Both sides suffered heavy losses, says the Associated Press Chungking correspondent. Severe engagements took place at every mountain pass and height, as the Chinese offered stout resistance. The Chinese forces broke through to a small town near Kinhwa, inflicting considerable casualties and destroying an enemy barracks.
