American aircraft have outfought superior Japanese forces in China and in the Solomons. When the Japanese tried to raid a Chinese airfield Afiierican fighters, although outnumbered by two to one, shot down five of the raiders and probably destroyed another four. Near Guadalcanal, in the Solomons, four American fighters attacked a flight xsf 10 bombers and 20 fighters. They shot down five Zeros for the loss of two planes.
