BOWLING

MASTERTON CLUB.

FINAL OF HANDICAP SINGLES.

(Notes by “The Bowler.”)

As I. have previously mentioned in my notes, Johnstone won the final in section B. In section A, Johnstone (handicap 14), beat Kennedy (handicap 5), in the final. The game was fairly interesting up to the 14th head, there being only a difference of 3 points in Johnstone’s favour, but in the next 5 heads,) Johnstone put on 10 points, while Kennedy increased his score by only one point. The game was concluded on the 19th head, the final scores being: Johnstone 26, Kennedy 14. I must congratulate Johnstone on his meritorious win by going through both sections without a loss. Johnstone played .excellent bowls throughout the competition. He joined the club at the commencement of this season, not having previously handled a bowl. If he continues to make progress next season in the same proportion he has this season, some of the senior players will have to look to their laurels in the championship singles at the commencement of next summer.
