FORMIDABLY ARMED
NEW VENTURA MEDIUM BOfc/IBER. FAST AND LONG-RANGE AIRCRAFT. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 11.20 a.m.) RUGBY, April 25. Formidable armament is a feature of the Ventura twin-engined medium bomber, details of which have been issued by the Ministry of Aircraft Production. The armament consists of either eight or ten guns—two fixed guns of .5 calibre and the rest .303. Two of these are in a Boulton Paul upper turret. (In the later versions a Boulton Paul four-gun turret is installed). All the forward guns are fired electrically by the pilot. The maximum speed is about 300 miles an hour, the cruising speed is about 260 miles an hour, and the maximum range of the plane is about 1,000 miles at 16,000 feet and with a maximum bomb-load of 2,5001b5. The Ventura, which is produced by the Vega Aircraft Corporation, of Burbank, California, is an all-metal, midwing monoplane and a military version of the Lockheeds Lodestar. It carries a crew of four.
