CARTERTON
FOOTBALL CLUB ANNUAL MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mr C. A. Gray presided at the annual meeting of the Carterton Football Club on Thursday evening. ” Members stood in silence for a few moments as a mark of respect to members who had died during the year. Special reference was made to Major I. A. Hart, who lost his life in the war.
The president, in submitting his annual report, said that Mr J. Fitzgerald deserved thanks for the part he had played in arranging games with the Army. He hoped now that many senior players were serving their country overseas, the younger footballers would keep the game going. The balance sheet, despite the fact that no subscriptions had been collected last year, showed a cr. balance of £l5 16s 6d.
Both the report and balance sheet were adopted. It was resolved that the club’s activities be continued’ this season.
The resignation of the secretary (Aircraftman C. M. Kiddie) was accepted with regret and his services to the club were recorded in the minutes.
The election of officers resulted:—Patron, Mr H. J. Blake; president, Mr C. A. Gray; secretary and treasurer, Mr G. Steffert; club captain, Mr J. Fitzgerald; delegates to W.R.F.U., Messrs C. A. Gray, G. Steffert and J. Fitzgerald; management committee, Messrs C. A. Gray, G. Steffert, J. Fitzgerald, I. Blake, W. A. Hart, K. H. Reid, W. Catt, B. Catt and L. Berry; auditor, Mr H. A. McPhee.
The matter of club subscriptions and the appointment of club coaches was left to the Management Committee. It was resolved that the season be opened on Saturday, May 1. The patron was thanked for a donation of £5 to the club funds. BOWLING PAIRS TOURNAMENT. A pairs tournament was held on the Carterton green yesterday. The most successful skip was Gordon Hughan (five. wins). The winning lead was S. Hill (five wins), W. H. Hall being runner-up with 4 wins and one loss. Tournaments will also be held today and on Monday. * „ R. Foss, S. McCarty, J. L. Harris and G. Riggs (s), of Carterton, are taking part in the Palmerston North tournament, while T. G. Underhill, E. Smith, C. H. Barber and G. W. Hart (s) are playing at Napier. Personal Items. I Flying Officer J. Brown, son of Mr and Mrs G. Brown, Carterton, writing from England, stated that he had played football for the New Zealand Services team. Theft of Bicycles. A number of complaints have been made to the local police concerning stolen bicycles. REGENT THEATRE “SUNDOWN.” The chief feature on tonight's programme at the Regent Theatre will be the sensational drama, “Sundown.”
