♦ S.M. COURT SITTING DRUNKEN MOTORIST FINED. (“Times-Age" Special.) The monthly sitting of. the Carterton Magistrate’s Court was held yesterday, Mr Lawry, S.M., presiding. Percy K. Bambry was charged that on April 9 he drove a motor vehicle while in a state of intoxication. Accused had previously been charged with a similar offence. The Magistrate fined accused £l5, with costs £1 Is, and ordered the cancellation of his mdtor licence and prohibited accused from obtaining one for 3 years. Mr Lawry warned accused that if he come before the court again on a similar charge he would probably be prohibited for life from obtaining a licence. Foi’ having been in a state of intoxication during the currency of a prohibition order accused was fined £2. A. E. Ansell (Traffic Officer) proceeded against G. W. Brandon and K. Simmonds for having failed to carry a warrant of fitness in connection with their cars. A fine of 10s each with costs 10s was imposed. W. G. Milne (Traffic Officer), brought charges against H, A. Evans, J. McK. Wilson and G. Welch for having failed to carry warrants of fitness. The former was fined 10s with 10s costs and the latter two 5s with 12s costs. James Callister was charged by A. E. Ansell with having operated a heavy motor vehicle without having a heavy traffic licence. A fine of £1 with costs 12s was imposed. For having exceeded the speed limit at Greytown on February £, F. Malton was fined £2 with costs 10s. BOWLING PAIRS TOURNAMENT. On Friday members of the Carterton Bowling Club will hold a pairs tournament when play will commence at 9 o’clock. A progressive pairs game between Colson and Hawker (s) and Daysh and Hart (s) ended in both teams scoring 17 points. The former pair having a handicap of 3, win the game, 20/17. BOY SCOUTS CARD PARTY. The weekly card party held by the Boy Scout Committee last evening was well attended. The prize winners were: Laies, Mrs A. Knutson 1, Mrs T. Collerton 2. Men: Mr Ticehurst 1, Mr A. Knutson 2.
Maori War Effort. On Saturday evening a dance will be held in the State Theatre in aid of the Maori War Effort. Parcel Appreciated. Tpr. P. R. Chaplin, of the Second N.Z.E.F. in the Middle East, has written to the local Lodge of Odd Fellows expressing thanks for a Christmas parcel received by him and which was greatly appreciated. .

Mr E. L. S. Taylor will act as postmaster at the local Post Office during Mr Pankhurst’s absence on leave.
Anzac Memorial Service.
The Anzac Memorial service will be held in the Regent Theatre, Carterton, at 10 a.m. on Sunday. Prior to this a service will be held at the memorial in the Memorial Square at 9.30 o'clock, when the Carterton branch of the Returned Services’ Association will place a wreath on the Memorial. Wreaths from other organisations will also be placed on the Memorial. The Carterton Band will provide the music. Members of the Carterton branch of the R.S.A. will parade in Holloway Street at 9.30 a.m. on Sunday and then march to the Memorial Square where a wreath will be placed upon the memorial in memory of comrades who died in the war of 1914-18. Members are to wear medals, decorations and poppies. St. Mark’s Church, Parishioners are reminded that the offertories at St. Mark’s Church on Easter Sunday, will be handed to the Vicar. There will be special services. Post Office Hours. The following hours will be observed at the Carterton Post Office during Easter:—On Good Friday the Post Office will be closed, but the telephone exchange will be open. On Saturday the Post Office will be open from 9 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., and the telephone exchange continuously. The Post Office will be closed on Monday, but the telephone exchange wil Ibe open. Mails for the north and south will close at 5 p.m. today, and at noon on Saturday. REGENT THEATRE ‘‘THE VANISHING VIRGINIAN.” An outstanding drama, “The Vanishing Virginian,” with Frank Morgan, Kathleen Grayson and Spring Byington in the chief roles, will be shown tonight.
