RED CROSS SOCIETY

HOSPITAL SEWING GROUP SPLENDID WORK BEING CARRIED OUT. APPEAL FOR USED MATERIAL. During the year ended March 31 last, many parcels of used household linen, cretonne furnishings and clothing were received from friends of the Red Cross Society. The donors may be interested to learn that 1030 articles, such as pan covers, feeders, guards, ditty bags, face cloths, etc., were made from these materials. Bundles of pieces of old linen were also sent to headquarters, and from the remainder some hundreds of dressings and pads were made for local emergency use. All material not suitable for hospital use was handed over to a sister group for their work. The Sewing Group would be glad to receive further donations of used, materials, beads and buttons. Parcels could be left at the Dress Department st Messrs Hugo and Shearer’s shop. Mesdames Birch, Caselberg, Sleeman, Misses Allen, M. Jones, Featherston, Central School, West School Junior Red Cross Society, Lansdowne School Junior Red Cross Society and several anonymous donors are thanked by the group for parcels.
