Mr J. Reynolds, of Masterton, received word of the death of his sister at Invercargill this morning. Mrs D. Baikie and her daughter, Miss Betty Baikie, of Otane, Hawke’s Bay, are visiting Masterton for the MillsIrvine wedding. Mrs J. H. R. Dick, of Hastwells, has received a cable message from her son, Pte. Bryan Dick, dated April 7, stating that he is safe and well.
The Deputy-Registrar General has authorised the appointment of Mr James Robert Fairbairn as DeputyRegistrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages at Masterton. Messrs, W. R. Nicol and J. D. O'Connor, of Masterton, have been reappointed as the representatives of the Wellington Education Board on the Wairarapa College Board of Governors. Reported wounded in action is Gunner Claude W. Barrett, whose wife and son are residing in Palmerston North. Gunner Barrett, who is a son of Mr and Mrs W. Barrett, of Pahiatua, and formerly of Masterton, was born in Masterton and received his education there and at the Pahiatua District High School. On leaving school he worked for his father in a garage business till he entered the Army in 1941. In September of that year he proceeded to the Middle East.
