SCHEDULE SYSTEM

APPLICATION TO HOSPITAL WORKS. PROTEST BY BOARD MEMBER. A protest against the Cabinet order under which hospital construction has to be carried out under the schedule system instead of the tender system was voiced by Mr H. Thomas at today’s meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital

Board. Mr .Thomas contended that the tender system was the only way in which prices could be checked. As a public body the board had to expend public money in the best way possible. The Managing-Secretary, Mr Norman Lee, said all hospital construction had to be carried out with labour and materials under control. “It is a waste of time protesting against the schedule system,” observed Mr P. R. Welch.

The board decided to have works carried out at the Greytown and Masterton hospitals under the schedule system.
