H. James £l. Temporary Telephone Bureau. (“Times-Age” Special.) A temporary telephone bureau is being established near the old Carterton Post Office. Building Demolished. The brick building formerly occupied by Mr A. Parton, tinsmith and plumber, in Pembroke. Street, Carterton, and which was badly damaged in the earthquake, has been demolished. Broken Column Replaced. The broken column of the Carterton Soldiers’ War Memorial, - which was broken off during the earthquake in June, 1942, has been replaced for the Anzac service on Sunday. St. Mark’s Church. Parishioners are reminded that the offertories in connection with St. Mark’s Church on Easter Day will be handed to the vicar. Palm Sunday Service. Good congregations were present at St. Mark’s Church on Sunday at the celebration of Palm Sunday. The organist was Mr Miller Hope, of Masterton, and a vocal solo was rendered by Mr Ardrey. Druids’ Lodge. Arch Druid Bro. H. J. Bassett presided over the meeting of Totara Lodge, No. 3, U.A.0.D., held last night. Following the usual Lodge custom on the Lodge night preceding Anzac Day, all present stood in silence for a few moments in memory of fourteen members who fell in the Great War of 1914-1918. General regret was expressed at the death of Bro. W. Erickson, and a vote of condolence with the widow and family was recorded. Bro. T. T. Hughes notified that he had taken up his residence in Paraparaumu. On Anzac Day, at 9.15 a.m., the Arch Druid will lay the Lodge memorial wreath on the soldiers’ memorial at Carterton. Members are asked to attend. Sick pay and accounts amounting to £4 19s 6d were passed for payment. The secretary was directed to pay the death claim of the late Bro. W. Erickson, amounting to £l2O. REGENT THEATRE “GEORGE AND MARGARET.” One of the funniest comedies ever to be brought to the screen, “George and Margaret,” will be shown finally tonight. Marie Lohr, Judy Kelly and Oliver Wakefield have the leading roles.
