PIRINOA

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Pirinoa Women’s Institute was held in the Memorial Hall -when Mrs Atkinson presided over a good attendance. Competitions were won by Mrs Spicer (jumble words), Mrs Atkinson (best bloom), and Mrs Priest (sauce). The hostesses were Mesdames Lovegrove and Swainson. Personal Items. Mr Alex Manihera, who was on a short visit to relatives at Pirinoa, has returned to Wanganui. Miss Betty Te Whaiti, has returned ■from a visit to Wellington. Mr John Quill has returned to Palliser Bay, after having spent a few days in Palmerston North. Miss Ellen Tilson was in Masterton for a few days. Mesdames Warren and Atkinson represented the local Women’s Institute at the meeting of the Federation at Carterton. Mr and Mrs D. Tikao have left for the South Island, where they will spend the Easter holidays. Mr G. J. Gillies is visiting the South Island. Tribal Committee. At a meeting of the Pirinoa Tribal Committee held at the weekend, the chairman (Mr Watson) referred to the loss the Maori people had sustained in the death of the late Mr P. K. Paikea. A motion of condolence was carried in silence. The secretary submitted a report of the proceedings at the executive meeting held at Greytown recently. Two new members were added to the committee.
