INDOOR BASKETBALL
SEASON’S OPERATIONS START. LAST NIGHT’S RESULTS. Basketball competitions at the Masterton Y.M.C.A. were started last night, when some excellent games were witnessed by a large attendance of spectators. Special thanks were due to the referees, Corporal Verne Baxter and Private J. Thorpe, of the U.S.M.C., for their splendid work. Other officials were: —Scorer, Mr G. Davies; timekeeper, Mr F. Stains; teams’ steward, Mr L. Askew.
Results were: —Borthwick’s beat Macduff’s, 22/0; McKenzie’s beat United, 6/4; Cathie’s B beat Rangers B, 5/4; Macduff’s A and Sparklets, 4 all; Lancers beat Cody’s, 8/4; Transport and Hansell’s B, 2 all; C. Smith’s beat Garage’s, 9/3; Hosiery Mills beat Woolworth’s, 10/2; Hansell’s A beat The Rest, 11/8; Cathie’s A beat W.F.C.A. B, 10/0.
Owing to a misunderstanding regarding the A grade times, the championship games in this section will not start until Monday, May 3. On account of the Easter holidays, no basketball will be played next Monday.
