Mr W. J. Crawford, printer and publisher, of Palmerston North, has decided to contest the Otaki seat as an Independent at the forthcoming general election. Mr W. L. Tattle, district manager of the Public Trust Office, Pahiatua, has received notice of his transfer to Wairoa.' Mr Tattle will leave Pahiatua in about three weeks. The death occurred at Miramar yesterday of Mrs I. M. Hamblin, mother of Mrs W. Wright (Greytown) and Mr Charles Hamblin (Masterton),' at the age of 68 years. At last night’s meeting of the Wairarapa College Board of Governors, the chairman, Mr W. R. Nicol, intimated that although he would still be a member of the board he would not be seeking re-election as chairman. Mr David Caselberg, of Worksop Road, Masterton, who has been in a | Wellington Hospital for some weeks past, has returned home. His many friends will be pleased to learn that he is much improved in health. The marriage took place recently at St. Andrew’s Church, Epsom, Auckland, of Miss Shirley Anne Wills, daughter of Mr and- Mrs R. W. Wills, of Orakei, to Flying Officer John Coom, R.N.Z.A.F., only son of Mr and Mrs H. F. Coom, “Tanawhai,” Masterton. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. F. de L. Willis. Misses E. M. Atkinson (Featherston), N. F. S. Copeland (Carterton), P. R. Curtis (Tiraumea), E. M. Fitzgerald (Carterton), J. D. Grantham (Masterton), M. E. Prout (Masterton), P. N. B. Savage (Masterton), B. I. Simmonds (Featherston), E. Tilson (Featherston) and M. H. Mabey left by railcar this morning for a W.A.A.C. camp. A pleasant evening was held at the residence of Mr and Mrs W. Harding on Saturday night, when Mrs L. E. Frances and Misses R. Stains and R. Harding entertained about thirty guests at a pantry evening in honour of the approaching marriage of Miss Olive-Hard-ing. Miss Harding received many useful presents. Mr C. Nielsen replied on behalf of Miss Harding. The evening was spent in dancing and games.
