PERSONAL

Miss Holdsworth, Christchurch, is the guest of Mrs Holdsworth, Sussex Street, Masterton. Mr F. Westbury, a well known farmer of the Hutt Valley, die'd at Taita recently, at the age of 81 years.. He was a life member of the Mana, watu A. and P. Association. Mr and Mrs S. D. Munn, of Chapel Street, Masterton, have received cabled advice stating that their son, Sergeant S. J. Munn, is safe and well after having undergone a slight operation in the Middle East.

The funeral of the late Miss A. Gray, which took place in Masterton on Saturday afternoon, was largely attended. The services were conducted by the Rev W. F. Stent (Carterton) and the pall-bearers were Messrs F. W. Reynolds, C. Cotton, T. Lowe and W. G. Lamb.

Mr and Mrs S. Moor, Beetham Street, Masterton, entertained a large number of guests at their home recently, in honour of Mr Stan Moor, who recently resigned from the Masterton Teelphone Exchange in order to join the R.N.Z.A.F. Several members of the U.S.M.C. rendered musical and vocal items, and a most enjoyable time was spent. • ' “We have come to a hallowed hour in the history of this church,” said the Rev C. H. Olds, Hamilton, president of the Methodist Conference, in unveiling a baptismal font to the memory of the late Percy R. Paris, minister of Wesley Church, Taranaki Street, Wellington, from 1935 till 1942, at a thanksgiving service for the life of Mr Paris in the church yesterday afternoon. The fragrance of Mr Paris’s life still lingered, and generations who followed would remember the character and work of their beloved minister for so many years, continued Mr Olds. He was a great preacher, and his facile pen and agile mind well fitted him for the editorial chair. There could be no more fitting memorial to his memory than a baptismal font, as Mr Paris had always been closely interested in the ritualistic and sacramental forms of the Church.
